FIT@50 / week 60

Freedom:

It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.” Voltaire, the 18th century poet said.

We strap many chains about us at various times in our lives. Some are born unto us, most others are self adorned. In my quest to become FIT, I’ve worked to identify the chains continuing to hold me back, or down.

It’s easy to know that ice cream every night is a negative restrainer from losing weight. But it’s not always simple to see the internal chains that affect us in negative ways.

I’m a Mondaholic. With great intentions to start everything from being more productive in my work, to going to bed at a normal hour, it all was set to start on the next Monday.

It hurts a bit to look in the mirror and say, “Wow, you’ve had a lot of ice cream and sedentary living.” It hurts even more to look inside and think about the failures to break chains. Even the seemingly simplest of constraints.

I tried something different this week to avoid the broken Monday Promises, Liliana Hart and I started our physical training on Wednesday!

It may be a while before I’m clicking off 100 mile rides or wading into the waters to start a triathlon again, but I’m in no rush. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This Wednesday, I took that first step.

That step includes the easy to assess exercises, but also the self-assessments of breaking chains that have long strangled me in some ways or others. It’s never too late to seek Freedom.

What are your chains?

Do Good,

Scott
