March Madness: Day 5
Hold that line…
I spent my youth doing one thing. Can you guess what it was? Well, besides sports of course. I spent it doing what most young boys do – trying to earn the approval of their dad. A few years ago I sat next to him in a hospital bed as he lingered in and out of conscientiousness.
For 3 days I held that line in hopes he would bless me with the peace I needed. With his last breath, he took with him the 3 words I’d never heard him say, “I love you.”
As children, our first impressions of God the Father comes from our parents; usually the dad. The beauty of this, is that even if our earliest understanding is distorted, God never expects us to earn His love. That’s a line He holds for us whether or not we catch the ball.
