The Required and the Desired

Those with children know that if you want them to do certain things, you will have to require it of them. I have five brothers, and grew up with one bathroom in the home. Our daily baths were done in resemblance to an assembly line – “ Next!”

My Momma knew boys though. She would check behind our ears and under our neck to be sure we bathed. Cleanliness required bathing, and Momma knew you don’t get what you expect, you get what you inspect.

As we matured we did what we were taught was needed. Momma got what she desired – us bathing on our own.

That defines life in a clear manner. People will normally do what is required if inspected by the Powers that be. As people mature and recognize responsibility, they should do the required without inspection.

That is not always the case though. Some people’s character alters their actions to skirt the required, and to fulfill their own flawed desires. This is a major root in the struggle of mankind. I would call it selfishness – the placing of self above all others.

The bible is full of instructions of what God requires of man and even of what God desires of man.

This scripture below is one of my favorites and one I daily strive to live . It has kept me straight many times when I was tempted to stray.

Micah 6:8 (NKJ)  “He has shown you O man what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

But to do Justly (what is right)

Love Mercy (have a loving and forgiving way)

Walk Humbly with your God. (Humble yourself and honor your God )

Now you know what God requires of you. Choosing to follow it will change the character and the outcome of your life.

Lord bless,
