The Quiet In The Cry Of Battle

Can You? Will You? You Can. You Will.

I get fired up when imagining a band of Christian warriors standing across the battlefield from a legion of superior force. Seemingly out armed, under equipped and untrained men, there because each was led by one common belief.

Then Joshua, humbly walking back and forth, looking each man in the eye, and reminding him of God’s assurance to deliver the promised land.

Rak Chazak Amats is an ancient Hebrew war cry that inspires the faithful to be strong and courageous. To Press the fight no matter the foe, and without ever considering the possibility of defeat.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” ~ Joshua 1:9

Can you imagine living out the promise of God, and approaching every day with Chazak (unrelenting courage) and Amats (unyielding confidence in victory.)

Yet, when it’s just me, and there is no rousing war cry from an inspiring leader to stand shoulder to shoulder with my brothers in an attack on the enemy, I’m suddenly not so courageous.

Doubt, discouragement and maybe even a little shame or guilt from past failures start to worm their way into my once bold, spirit. Then what do I do, alone when facing the giants?

I whisper quietly, “Rak Chazk Amats.”

Much Love / Respect,
