I’ll Pass
The family wanted to go to some activity that for me wasn’t even close to what I wanted to do. In their excitement, all of the kids tried to encourage me, beg me, and trick me into agreeing to take them.
It would’ve been so easy to say, “I’ll pass.” But, where does that leave me as the spiritual leader and head of my household? If we only did what interested me, these kids would never get the chance to explore who they are and who they will become.
“Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become discouraged.” ~ Colossians 3:21
Sure, we lay the foundations in their lives, but to live out our life through them isn’t them being them. It’s a fantasy or manifestation of either who we were or who we wanted to be, but never did.
When we find ourselves in those situations, it’s important to think back on why it’s important to us that our kids are poured into a specific mold. Are we carrying around regret, jealousy, or pain over past failures to achieve?
Let’s not allow our knocks become our kids bruises.
