Who’s Coming:
Years ago I worked at a large law enforcement agency. Anytime someone organized a get together of friends, someone would privately ask, “Who’s coming?”
The question was asked because if there was one or a few “friends” that person didn’t like, they wouldn’t go. So much for brotherhood and unity.
King David needed a get together, and because he pursued God’s heart, he was blessed with brothers who didn’t worry about who else was going. Their calling was greater than their clique.
Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God. ~ 1 Chronicles 12:22
The bonds of those “friends” were as fragile as the paper the invitation was written on. Christian brotherhood is rooted in service to God above all, and is outward serving, not inward selfish.
It’s easy and comfortable to force friendships from acquaintances, but God is calling His army together just as He assembled for King David’s rule.
…They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains. ~ 1 Chronicles 12:8
