Years ago I read a true story of a beautiful little town in Maine. Because of a Hydroelectric plant being built, it would eventually be destroyed by flooding. The news media did a special report on the town, and pointed out its beauty.
One year later, the media did a follow-up report before the city flooded. The once beautiful town now was dirty and run down. One of the reporters stopped a gentleman and asked him what happened.
The man gave a powerful answer – “I guess when there is no hope for the future, there can be no power for the present.” How true a statement that is. Hope for the future is necessary for empowering us to live today.
Viktor Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor. While in a concentration camp during WWII, he observed that the ones that had something to look forward to, were the ones that survived. He made this now famous statement, “It is a peculiarity of man that he can only live by looking to the future.”
It has been proven by research that most people enjoy planning and preparing for a vacation as much or more than the vacation itself. That may be true about vacations, but that is not true about Heaven. Nothing can compare to the Eternity God has prepared for his servants. The Apostle Paul wrote this about heaven.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. (NKJ)
Is there hope in your life? Something you look forward to? Ever thought the power you need to face today, was designed by God to be in your future? Living your life for Eternity is the most empowering life there is.
