Do You Want Justice Or Mercy?

Do You Want Justice Or Mercy
A lady went to a photographer to have her picture taken. When she saw the finished product, she didn’t like it. She asked the photographer to take her picture again. The photographer said, “Well lady, what’s wrong with it?” She said, “It doesn’t do me justice.” He looked at it, then looked at her and said, “Lady, you don’t need justice, what you need is some mercy!”

Which shall it be; Justice or Mercy
Anyone ever flash a badge at you when you pulled them over for a violation? That is not a denial of guilt. It is their wishful attempt for you to administer mercy to them. If they are guilty, justice would require punishment. Justice is getting what you deserve, and mercy is not getting what you deserve. The good Lord knows we all need some mercy.

We Deserve Justice, but Receive Mercy
I have heard officers say that if someone tries to lie their way out of a ticket, they get no mercy. How do you feel about the person that tries to justify their crime because they were once a victim themselves? That’s the equivalent of saying I stole your car because someone stole mine. That doesn’t balance things out. That makes two car thieves.
It is the same way with God’s dealings with sin in our lives. He doesn’t want excuses, “I did this wrong because….” He wants honesty. From the very beginning of mankind’s failure, God required confession.
It is through honest confession that we find mercy from God. Justice demands judgment, and Jesus Christ paid that price for those that will confess and turn from their sins. For those that don’t, someday justice will require payment.

I John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. (NLT)
Sin weighs us down. Through Christ Jesus, we obtain mercy to find grace to help us in our times of need. Christianity is not flawed. Christians are flawed. Christianity works.
